Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

This review is going to be short because I do not want to give away any of the plot and spoil your experience.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is the first book in a new series entitled Between which is scheduled to release Aug 2013.  I really do not know how to categorize this book or if there is even a genre for it.  So here it goes, gothic meets horror meets YA with a romantic twist.  Is that a category?  It was an original take on whatever genre you want to put it in.

This is not my usual type of read, but I did enjoy it none the less from the haunting plot to the quirky characters.  This book has every element of a horror book/movie that you could ask for.  It reminds me of a Stephen King book.  I can see this book being made into a horror flick.

So if you are looking for creepy kids in the cemetery and mysterious deaths to forgiveness and friendship this is the book for you.  And the cover is just as gothic the story.

Synopsis

You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town…until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery...who makes you want to kiss back. Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.
